Our Practice Areas

The firm was founded by Robert Chaffin in 1979. Mr. Chaffin has a long history of winning and settling multi-million-dollar cases in oil & gas, maritime, consumer product defects, and many more. Mr. Chaffin achieved success in the ‘70s with a victory in the U.S. Supreme Court, winning over $400,000 for an employee that was abandoned by his employer in a foreign port. Since that time, Mr. Chaffin and the team have continued to grow and fight for the general public, providing high-quality legal counsel. We were featured on a CNBC special in 2010 after winning a high-profile, multi-million-dollar verdict against Remington (rifles).

If you’ve been injured or cheated, don’t be intimidated by large companies or afraid to fight for your rights. We’ll fight for you. Call us to set up a free telephone consultation, or fill out the Free Case Evaluation form on this website.

Fee Structure

It can be a strange and confusing time when you’ve been injured or mistreated. You’re not sure how the law works and may just want to talk to an attorney to find out if you have a good case. We understand that uncertainty, and we welcome the opportunity to consult with you about your problem. And most importantly, we never charge a client for consulting with us about their potential case.

We care about our clients and understand the uphill battle you are facing. That’s why we don’t charge an up-front fee, even after we take your case. We work exclusively on a contingency basis. That means there are no attorneys’ fees unless you recover money. You don’t pay us anything unless we WIN. If we recover money for you, our fees are calculated as a percentage of the total recovery which we all agree on in advance. Court costs, litigation expenses and medical bills will be paid from your share of the recovery. If there is no recovery, you will not be responsible for any court costs or litigation expenses, except for your unpaid medical bills.

Oil & Gas

We’re headquartered in Houston, Texas, the energy capital of the world. That means we are surrounded by all aspects of the oil & gas industry which gives us a unique understanding and respect for the energy sector. The oil & gas sector has a myriad of laws, regulations, and contracts that are very complex and can vary for each company, state and country. Industrial accidents are common, and we know how to navigate the rules and regulations set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA). Title errors, contract disputes, and broken lease agreements are also surprisingly common in the oil & gas industry and we know how to navigate the complicated provisions found in most oil & gas documents. It’s an industry that requires the expertise and knowledge that our law firm has been perfecting since 1979.

Maritime Law

Maritime injury litigation has been Mr. Chaffin’s primary area of practice for over 40 years. Mr. Chaffin got his start in the 1970s with victories in large Maritime verdicts and hasn’t stopped since. Offshore workers, crew members, cruise line passengers and general maritime workers deserve to have their rights protected and we ensure they get the medical care and/or compensation they deserve.

Commercial Litigation

In some circumstances, a broken promise hurts just as bad as a broken bone. A contract is a promise and the law recognizes that the victim of a broken contract deserves to be compensated if they are harmed by that broken promise. That’s why we don’t just fight for the physically injured, but we also fight for those who have been financially injured.

Personal Injury

Personal injury is a category that covers a wide range of different types of cases. With over 40 years of experience, Mr. Chaffin has seen it all and we have the results to prove it. Our vast, international experience is what you need to fight when you’ve been harmed by the negligence of others. We’ve represented clients who have been injured on the road, on cruise ships, on hunting leases, in the workplace, on offshore rigs, and in hospitals. We represent victims, whether it’s the victim of a defective product or of someone’s negligence.

Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice is another type of personal injury case that most of us have heard of, and many people have been given a negative idea about these cases. Yes, there are risks to just about every medical procedure and sometimes everything is done right and things still go wrong for the patient.

Defective Products

Big corporations often make mistakes in the way they design, manufacture, market, or sell their products. If those mistakes pose a danger to consumers, then the law labels that product “defective.” As a consumer, you have every right to expect a product to be safe and reliable. Unlike the seller of the product, you did not have an opportunity to research, study, design, build, and market that product.  Unfortunately, defective products harm and kill consumers every day.

Defective Firearms

Firearms are unique because, unlike with other products, our government cannot force firearms manufacturers to recall or repair dangerous firearms. The Consumer Product Safety Commission can order manufacturers to recall and repair of thousands of things from kitchen appliances to children’s toys.
